Pedestrian Fatality, Squeaking Point Road

At approximately 01.35 hrs on Sunday 1st July 2012 Police were called to a motorcycle and pedestrian crash on Squeaking Point Road, 300 meters south of the Parkers Ford Roadand Woodbury Lane Junction.

A 30 year old man from Squeaking Point was riding a Honda 650 road trail motorcycle travelling south on Squeaking Point Road.  A 35 year old Latrobe man was on the roadway and was struck by the motorcycle.  The pedestrian died at the scene.  The 30 year old man was taken to the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe suffering minor injuries and was later released.

Initial indications suggest alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash.

As a result of the crash, a small section of Squeaking Point Roadwas closed for several hours while Police conducted an investigation into the crash.  This caused minor traffic disruption with diversions in place around the crash scene.  Members from Tasmanian Ambulance Service, Tasmanian Fire Service and Mersey SES attended the scene as did Police from Sheffield, Port Sorell, Devonport, Western Forensic Services and Western District Crash Investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact 1/C Constable Haydn BARNARD of Western District Crash Investigation on 131 444.
