Criminal Assault Charges

Three members of the same family from the small northern township of Lefroy have today been charged with criminal assault.

The charges are the culmination of an investigation conducted by George Town Police into a violent incident that occurred at a licensed premises in George Town on Wednesday 1 August 2012.

During the incident several people received injuries including deep bruising and lacerations.  Two of the men, aged 44 and 22, were granted bail by police, whilst the third man, aged 20, has been detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court later today.

“The incident was particularly disturbing as it occurred in a public place and involved a large number of people who seemed to have little regard for the safety of other patrons,” said Inspector King.

“Police will allege that the male offenders attacked two other men by kicking and punching them to the head.”

Members of the public who may have seen the incident are encouraged to contact George Town Police on 63824040 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
