Tasmania Police are concerned about a number of house burglaries that have occurred in the Sandy Bay / Battery Point and Kingston areas in the past 2 months.

Detective Inspector Peter Powell of Hobart CIB said most of the burglaries are occurring in the period between 4pm and late afternoon, although there have been some incidents during the day, and overnight whilst residents have been home.

Many houses are entered by forcing open a window or sliding door. Of particular note is that the only property targeted has been cash.  Other valuable items have been left untouched.

Police would like residents in the areas mentioned to pay particular attention to any suspicious activity, strange vehicles or people in the area.  Any information would be greatly appreciated by police.

A Taskforce has been established in response to these concerns.  Members of Kingston CIB will temporarily be working closely with Hobart Detectives under the direction of Inspector Powell to coordinate the police investigations in relation to these matters.
