Arson lookout

At 12.45pm today, Tuesday 15 January 2013, Ulverstone Police responded to a grass fire in McKennas Road, Gawler.   At the fire peak, a residence was at risk of fire damage but that was averted through the work of attending fire crews.  Whilst no major damage has been caused and limited to vegetation only, weather conditions, fuel load and the potential for a greater fire existed.   The cause of the fire is undetermined but believed to be suspicious.

“Tasmania Police would like to take this opportunity to ask members of the public living in remote areas to be vigilant in respect of observing strange vehicles or people observed in their area,” Inspector Shadbolt said.

“Should members of the public make any observations concerning suspected illegal activities or movement of people out of the ordinary, they are asked to write down relevant details including a vehicle description and registration number or person description and contact Crime Stoppers or Tasmania Police on 131444.”
