Campania Hotel Fire

Investigations are continuing into a blaze at the Campania Hotel in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14 August 2013.  The heritage building was completely gutted.

Tasmania Fire Service personnel, police forensic officers and CIB Detectives conducted inquiries in Campania during the day.

“Police are treating the fire as suspicious and investigations will continue into the cause of the blaze,” said Acting Detective Inspector Craig Joel.

“The quick action of local fire brigades prevented damage to surrounding buildings,” he said.

The Tasmania Police command bus will be parked near the Hotel tomorrow between 12 midday and 2.00 pm.  Police officers will be in attendance and any information about the fire this morning or armed robbery on last Friday night can be passed on.  Alternatively, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“It is hoped that the presence of the command bus might encourage anyone with information about the fire or armed robbery to come forward and speak to a police officer, or alternatively contact Crime Stoppers, anonymously if necessary,” he said.
