Wounding incident, Cape Barren Island

On Wednesday 4 September 2013 at 1.50pm police received a call from the Cape Barren Community Centre stating that a man had received a gunshot wound. 

 

The victim went to the Community Health Centre and received initial treatment from the community nurse.

The alleged offender remained at the Community Centre and a firearm was taken from him by members of the community.  The community centre was evacuated leaving the alleged offender inside.

Police from Flinders Island attended the scene a short time later and took the alleged offender into custody without incident.  Two firearms were seized from the scene.

The 30 year old injured man received a non life-threatening shotgun wound to the right side of his body.  The victim will be taken by Tas Air Ambulance to Hobart for further treatment.

The alleged offender, aged 55, and the victim are known to each other and the incident is believed to be from an ongoing issue between both parties.

Detectives and Forensic Police from Launceston are attending the scene tonight.
