Industrial Accident – Tasmanian Quality Meats (Cressy)

At approximately 18:10 on Friday the 21/3/2014 Tasmania Police received a call to attend a workplace accident at Tasmanian Quality Meats, 5 Burlington Road Cressy.

The incident was reported to be an explosion of a fat burner and a male had been signifcantly burnt.

A 59 year old male employee was working in the rendering plant when the pressure cooker exploded. The employee sustained burns to his face, arms,and chest. He received first aid by staff until the arrival of personnel from Tasmania Ambulance Service. The employee was conveyed to the Launceston General Hospital for treatment. His condition was serious but stable.

As a result of the explosion the cooker room sustained exstensive damage.

Tasmania Ambulance Service, Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police attended the scene.

Workplace Standards were notified of the incident.
