Investigations into abduction and assault continue

Investigations are continuing into the abduction and sexual assault of a child at Latrobe last Tuesday.

“We have received an overwhelming response from members of the community. Several key pieces of information have been called in and we are following up on these leads,” said Detective Inspector Robert Gunton.

The Devonport CIB has established a taskforce with xxx dedicated officers to focus on finding the man responsible for assaulting the girl.

“Police high visibility and covert patrols are continuing in the Latrobe district. There have been no further reports of any attempt to approach a child in the area.”

The grey ‘people mover’ vehicle used by the offender had sliding doors on both sides and there was a child booster seat fitted to the middle row of seats.

The man is described as thin build and about 175cm tall, with a pale complexion and clean shaven. The victim describes the man’s grey hooded windcheater as having a grey check, with some black. The hood covered the man’s hair.

“If anyone has suspicions as to the identity of this man, we urge them to contact us. Don’t keep your suspicions to yourself,” said Det. Insp. Gunton.

Police have reviewed CCTV from the Latrobe Town Centre but the vehicle or anyone fitting the description of the offender has been identified.

If anyone has information about the vehicle or suspicious about the identity of the offender please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
