Ambulance Crash – Mount Direction

At about 5.00 am today, members from Ambulance Tasmania responded to a call from a 30 year old man in George Town.

While enroute to the Launceston General Hospital the man became agitated and gained control of the ambulance. The two ambulance officers, who had been unable to restrain him, got out of the ambulance and called for police assistance.

The man then drove the ambulance for about 500 metres before crashing into an Armco railing, causing moderate damage. He was taken into custody by responding police and taken to the LGH.

Police are conducting an investigation into the incident; however charges have not been laid at this stage.
