Charges for $50,000 Huon Home Burglaries

Detectives from Kingston Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy following a four-month investigation into a series of burglaries in the Huon Valley and Kingston areas.

The investigation began in May 2014, after a deliberately lit fire at a home in Glen Huon.

The boy appeared in the Hobart Magistrate’s Court, Youth Justice Division, charged with a number of offences including aggravated burglary, burglary and stealing.

The total value of property stolen is alleged to have been in excess of $50,000.

Property including a motor vehicle, chainsaws, jewellery, firearms and ammunition has been recovered by police.

He was remanded in custody and will appear via video link at a later date.

Senior Sergeant Adam Mollineaux of Kingston CIB said:

“The arrest follows a long and ongoing investigation.

“Our enquiries are continuing with a view to further arrests.”
