Vehicle Thefts and Fires – Greater Hobart Region

Tasmania Police are investigating a series of motor vehicle thefts, motor vehicle burglaries, and motor vehicle fires which occurred in the Greater Hobart area during the evening of Saturday 30 August and the morning of Sunday 31 August 2014.

Suburbs affected included Hobart, Sandy Bay, West Hobart, New Town, Rokeby, Grasstree Hill, Moonah, Rosetta, Claremont, Austins Ferry, Chigwell, Granton, Old Beach, Bridgewater and Gagebrook.

During this time ten (10) vehicles sustained extensive fire damage as a result of deliberately lit fires, and substantial damage was also caused to other vehicles and property. A quantity of property was stolen from these vehicles, including golfing equipment, diving equipment, and computer related equipment.

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed these fires or any suspicious behaviour in and around the above suburbs during these times.

Of particular interest is anyone who may have witnessed a red 1994 Subaru Liberty station wagon and its occupants acting suspiciously in any of the above listed areas.
