A 52 year old man is in hospital in a critical condition after being assaulted last night between 5pm and 7.30pm at a house in Queen Street, Sandy Bay.

“Detectives and forensic personnel, including scientists from Forensic Science Service Tasmania, are examining the scene and speaking to witnesses to determine what happened at the house,” said Detective Acting Inspector Craig Joel.

“The assault appears to have arisen out of a dispute inside the house between the two men who are known to each other.

“A 61 year old man is assisting police with their inquiries,” he said.

Police have conducted door knocks in the area however encourage anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance in Queen Street, Sandy Bay, between 5pm and 7.30pm last night, Sunday 31 August 2014, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
