Pedestrian/Vehicle Crash – Huon Road, South Hobart (13 Sept)

A 16 year old Warrane youth is in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Royal Hobart Hospital after being struck by a motor vehicle on Huon Road at South Hobart about 3.50pm on Saturday the 13th day of September 2014.

The 16 year old youth was walking east bound along the edge of Huon Road when he was struck by the front passenger corner of a blue Volkswagen sedan which was being driven in a westerly direction by a 39 year old woman. In the area of the crash there are no dedicated footpaths.

Impact with the pedestrian has occurred in the west bound lane. The driver of the vehicle and her young daughter were not injured but the driver was clearly shaken.

Crash Investigation Services and Forensic Police attended the scene which was marked and photographed.

Excessive speed was not a factor in this crash. Traffic flow on Huon Road was interrupted for approximately 3 hours whilst investigations at the scene took place.

The investigator, Sergeant Rod CARRICK, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the incident or seen the pedestrian or vehicle beforehand.
