Drug Trafficking Charges

On Thursday 30 April 2015 members of Tasmania Police Southern Drug Investigation Services arrested and charged a 42 year old man and a 25 year old man, both from Rokeby with trafficking in a controlled substance.

The arrests followed a targeted police operation into the distribution of crystal methylamphetamine (ICE) and cocaine.

Ice with an approximate street value of $155 000 and cocaine with an approximate street value of $65 000 was recovered following the arrests and searches of two private residences in Rokeby and Sandy Bay and a licenced premises in Hobart.

A 60 year old man from Sandy Bay was also charged in relation to the possession, use and sale of a controlled drug and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Detective Inspector Jason Elmer of Southern Drug Investigation Services stated “Illicit drugs, particularly ICE, have a significant impact upon the community and these latest arrests demonstrate that Tasmania Police will continue to dedicate resources to investigate and bring those responsible for the manufacture or distribution of illicit drugs before the courts.”

The men charged with trafficking will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday 1 May 2015.
