Commissioner’s Medals and Awards Presentations

Long-serving police officers and state service employees were recognised at medal presentations in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart during the month of September and October 2008.

The awards were presented by the Minister for Police and Emergency Management, Mr Jim Cox MP and Acting Commissioner of Tasmania Police, Mr Darren Hine. The presentations were attended by the senior officers of Tasmania Police, medal recipients and their families.

The National Medal is presented to police officers and members of the emergency services who have completed 15 years of service or combined police, emergency service and military service.  Subsequent years of service are acknowledged by the presentation of Clasps - the First Clasp is awarded for completion of 25 years of service and the Second Clasp for the completion of 35 years of service.

The Commissioner’s Medal and the Commissioner’s Award for State Service Employees are designed to recognise the work of people who contribute to the organisation’s professional reputation.

Acting Commissioner Darren Hine said the awards are bestowed in recognition of loyal and extended service to the Tasmanian community.

“The excellent work of police officers and members of the emergency services sometimes goes unrecognised,” Mr Hine said.

“The presentation of these awards helps to overcome that. It provides an official acknowledgment that their efforts in providing Tasmanians with a safe community are appreciated.

“I congratulate the recipients for their commitment, dedication and loyalty.
