Female Talent Pool in the Police Force

Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon of Victoria Police acknowledged the presence of talented women in the Tasmania Police Force. Ms Nixon was the guest speaker at the luncheon hosted by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Richard McCreadie, and the Tasmania Police Women’s Consultative Committee.

Ms Nixon shared personal learning experiences during her visit and encouraged women to actively pursue their full leadership potential.

Two female officers attending the luncheon are already part of an executive leadership development program designed for the Inspectors aspiring to become executives. At present all executive positions are filled by males.

Mr McCreadie said he was proud of the advancement of women in Tasmania Police, with nearly one-quarter of sworn officers being female. “This figure places Tasmania Police well in advance of the national average in the relation to the representation of women among our ranks”, Mr McCreadie said. "This is commendable, but of course I would like to see that number increase even further."

This year Tasmania Police celebrates the 90th anniversary of the first woman sworn in to the police force.
