Cold Case Unit (CCU)

The Cold Case Unit (CCU) provides a specialist criminal investigation service to Tasmania Police and the Tasmanian community. It is a dedicated investigative unit, with a state-wide charter, which applies a structured approach to the independent review and assessment of ‘cold cases’.

'Cold Case' means:

  • unsolved murder or attempted murder
  • any other unsolved crime that has produced significant community concern or disquiet
  • a missing person case in which murder and/or abduction is strongly suspected

and which has been approved by Assistant Commissioner Crime and Operations and the Commander CCU for review and/or investigation by the CCU.

‘Unsolved’ crime means – a case in which the offender or offenders have not been convicted.
