Women's Consultative Committee
In 2003, the Commissioner of Police sponsored the formation of the Women’s Consultative Committee (WCC). It is the role of WCC to provide support for women employees working for the Department of Police and Emergency Management (DPEM) to assist in fostering values of equity and diversity, to establish and maintain networks and provide advice to the sponsor on issues affecting women employees.
The WCC comprises representative members of existing groups within the DPEM, which currently deal with women’s issues. The groups are:
- Australian and New Zealand Equal Opportunity Consultative Committee (ANZEOCC)
- Commissioners’ Australasian Women in Policing Advisory Committee (CAWIPAC) and
- Access and Equity.
The Women’s Consultative Committee intends to:
- Identify issues that impact on women working within the DPEM
- Advise the Commissioner of Police on strategies, priorities, initiatives and policy changes that improve the work/life balance for women employees
- Identify and promote development opportunities for women and thereby increase women’s participation at higher levels in the organisation
- Identify strategies to retain specialised and experienced State Service employees in the DPEM and
- Influence and shape planning documentation including Strategic Framework and Workplace Management Planning.
