Tasmanian Crime Prevention & Community Safety Awards

The Tasmanian Crime Prevention & Community Safety Awards acknowledge outstanding contributions made to crime prevention and community safety in the Tasmanian community. The Awards aim to raise awareness about crime prevention and community safety issues.

Individuals or groups in Tasmania from a business, project, government department, non-government organisation or combination thereof are eligible for nomination for an Award.

Awards are provided in the following categories:

  • Volunteer Award - recognising the outstanding contribution by a volunteer to a crime prevention organisation or community safety program
  • Individual Award - recognising a paid individual’s outstanding contribution to an innovative crime prevention and/or community safety program
  • Group Innovation Award - recognising an outstanding contribution by a group to an innovative crime prevention and/or community safety project/program
  • Journalism Award - recognising an outstanding contribution to community understanding of crime prevention and/or community safety issues
  • Women’s Safety Award - awarded on behalf of Women Tasmania, recognising an outstanding contribution by an individual or group to a crime prevention and/or community safety initiative that aims to increase women’s safety in the community.

When are nominations called for?

Nominations will usually be called for in October each year. If you plan to nominate for an Award, you can contact the Secretariat to ask to be placed on the mailing list.

Awards ceremony

The Minister for Police and Emergency Management will usually present the Awards to the winners at a formal ceremony. The Awards ceremony will be held in November or December each year.

Previous winners

Tasmanian Crime Prevention & Community Safety Awards 2007:

  • Individual Award - the winner was Constable Jillian Gray, Tasmania Police, Bridgewater Primary Inter-Agency Support Team. A High Commendation was awarded to Mr Ross Park from the Glenorchy City Council
  • Group Innovation Award - the winner was the Bridgewater Primary Inter-Agency Support Team
  • Journalism Award - the first winner was The Examiner newspaper for Police File. The second winner was Glenorchy City Council for The Glenorchy Gazette
  • Women’s Safety Award - the winner was Annie Kenney Young Women’s Refuge for their Perpetrator Program.
