How are members appointed?

The CP&CSC will seek applications for community membership when a vacancy occurs. The preferred candidate will be recommended by the Chairperson to the Minster for Police and Emergency Management, who is responsible for the appointment of community members to the CP&CSC.

New community members will be sought through a variety of means as deemed appropriate at the time a member is sought. The CP&CSC may advertise vacant positions through newspaper advertisements, CP&CSC website, Tasmanian Women’s Register, and by targeting relevant organisations/bodies.

Government members occupy very senior positions within their Department and are nominated by their Department.

In selecting a preferred candidate for appointment to the CP&CSC, the Chairperson will consider:

  • state-wide representation in the composition of the CP&CSC membership
  • diverse representation of the Tasmanian community in the composition of the Council membership
  • interest, enthusiasm and commitment to crime prevention and community safety issues
  • level of knowledge and skill appropriate to the objective of the CP&CSC.

What is the term of membership?

The term of membership is two years, with the option to continue in the position for a further 12 months. Members will cease to be a member if they resign from their position or no longer represent their sector.
