Memorandum of Understanding between Tasmania Police and Tasmanian Schools and Colleges

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Tasmania Police and Tasmanian Schools and Colleges was executed in January 2009.

This MOU was developed between Tasmania Police and the Department of Education, the Catholic Education Office and the Association of Independent Schools of Tasmania.  The MOU outlines the process to be undertaken if an illicit drug is detected, or if a drug-related incident occurs, or is suspected on school premises.  The MOU ensures all educational bodies across Tasmania are dealt with consistently, and importantly, ensures the wider school community, including parents and the public, are informed on how drug-related incidents will be managed in schools.

Unfortunately, drug-related incidents do continue to occur within our schools, and do attract the attention of the media. This MOU has been developed to highlight to the entire school community and the public how Tasmania Police and schools are working together to address this issue.
