Deputy Commissioner of Tasmania Police Appointed
The Minister for Police and Emergency Management, Jim Cox, announced that Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Darren Hine has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Tasmania Police and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Police and Emergency Management.
Mr Cox congratulated Mr Hine on the appointment.
“Mr Hine is an extremely well-respected senior member of Tasmania Police and I have no doubt he will perform the role of Deputy Commissioner with skill, integrity and high degree of intelligence.
“His leadership ability and strong ethics have been long-recognised and I am sure the members of Tasmania Police will welcome his appointment.”
Mr Hine, 45, joined Tasmania Police as a cadet 28 years ago.
Upon graduation, he spent five years as a Constable in Burnie conducting uniform and traffic control duties, before a six-year posting with Launceston CIB as a Detective Senior Constable.
Mr Hine was promoted to Sergeant in 1993, spending two years in Hobart uniform, and two years in charge of the Physical Surveillance Unit.
He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 1997 when he worked in Business Projects Services, and appointed Commander in 2000 when he headed Executive Support and Operations Support.
In 2002, Mr Hine was appointed Assistant Commissioner.
He was awarded the National Medal in 1995, the Commissioner’s Medal in 1999 and the Australian Police Medal in 2002.
“Mr Hine is of the highest calibre and a well qualified person to be Deputy Commissioner of the fine organisation that is Tasmania Police,” Mr Cox said.
“He has devoted his police career to gaining broad-based management and leadership knowledge, and these skills are crucial in ensuring Tasmania Police continues protecting our community into the future,” Mr Cox said.
