Charity Donation Tins Theft

Warnings have been issued to businesses to be more careful about where they locate charity donation tins, after two separate thefts were reported.

Inspector Woolley advised that these types of thefts were crimes of opportunity and businesses should take temptation away from the thieves.

Prevention Tips:

    • place donation tins in high visibility areas where staff can keep an eye on them
    • chain tins to counter where possible
    • keep tins in areas where security cameras operated so that police would have a better chance of identifying the theft.

Anyone having information on donation tins theft should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the local police station.
