Reward doubled to $100,000 for missing person information

Thursday, 23 July 2009 marked the one year anniversary of the disappearance of Burnie woman Helen Karel Munnings.  Helen Munnings was last seen at Burnie, on or about 23 July 2008.  Her disappearance, since that time, has been the subject of an intensive police investigation by Burnie CIB Detectives.

The reward for information that could determine the whereabouts of Helen Munnings, or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, has now been doubled to $100,000.  A local businessman has approached police, and committed to match the current $50,000 reward on a dollar for dollar basis.

The terms of the reward remain the same as previously outlined, with the payment of such reward, or any portion thereof, remaining at the sole discretion of the Commissioner of Police.

"We have had an excellent response from the initial reward announcement to-date.  We are hoping that the increase in the reward amount will encourage those people we believe to have relevant credible information concerning the disappearance, to come forward and share that information with us,” said Detective Inspector Shadbolt.

"This is an extremely generous offer made by the businessman who provided it only on the basis of anonymity.”

“He has been following the story closely through the media and believes that should the Missing Person enquiry be solved and he is required to pay the $50,000, he claimed 'it would be the best money I have ever spent'.”

Any person with information regarding Ms Munnings’ disappearance should contact Burnie CIB on (03) 6434 5291 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
