New Bicycles to Assist with Incident Responses

Northern district police has added five new mountain-hybrid bicycles to the Launceston division bicycle squad. The bicycles will be utilised by other members of Launceston division and various task forces.

The bicycles will allow police members to respond quickly to reported incidents as they are a more efficient means of catching up to criminals escaping from a scene, than officers on foot.

Launceston division Inspector Flude said, “They will allow us to increase visibility in and around the CBD and in public areas, such as the Gorge, throughout the busy summer months.

“An added bonus is the fitness aspect, a lot of our members have already shown interest in taking to the streets on the new bicycles.”
