Police Boats Preparing for Busy Season

Tasmania Police Marine Services are gearing up for a busy summer on the water.

Tasmania is the only state where police are responsible for enforcement of the fishery laws protecting the living marine resources.

As recreational fishers are preparing their boats and equipment for the summer holidays, Police Marine Services are also planning their patrols, with regular checks of boats at sea, in port and at boat ramps.

Police ask that fishermen check their equipment and make sure they have all the required safety equipment on board. They are also urged to consult weather forecasts before setting out and are reminded that there are now alcohol limits for boat drivers, similar to motorists.

Police vessels will carry out regular coastal patrols and also be on hand for any rescue operations.
