Police Recruit Graduation
Many of the new Constables graduating from the Tasmania Police Academy on 9 October 2009, have realised their goal through the career path programs offered by Tasmania Police.
23 recruits graduated, nine of whom have followed a pathway to a policing career through the youth based Junior Constable Police College Program and the Career Development Program.
The Junior Constable Police College Program provides an opportunity for Tasmanian college students to experience first hand the role of Tasmania Police.
The junior constables perform 16 hours of paid casual employment each fortnight during school terms, and undergo two weeks of instructional training at the Police Academy.
“This program is proving to be a valuable recruiting tool for Tasmania Police,” said the Acting Commissioner, Darren Hine.
“It offers college students experience in operational and administrative police roles, while supporting them to complete their college education,” said Mr Hine.
“The Junior Constable Police College Program gave me a first hand insight into policing, and reinforced my decision to join Tasmania Police,” said graduating Constable Sarah Saunders.
The Career Development Program is aimed at year 12 and provides a snapshot of policing to students who are keen to pursue a career with Tasmania Police.
“This Program confirmed my commitment to pursue a policing career,” said Constable Dana Hayde.
The new Constables, aged between 18 and 39, will be based around the state – 12 in Hobart, 4 in Launceston, 3 in Devonport and 4 in Burnie.
