Tasmania Police Officer Wounded
A police officer is in a serious condition after being stabbed during an incident at Glenorchy on 7 September 2009.
The Acting Sergeant, aged in his mid-40s, was attending a residence in Glenorchy to assist health workers at about 5:45pm when he was stabbed several times.
He received two stab wounds to the back, puncturing his lungs.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital and admitted to ICU.
Southern District Commander Peter Edwards said the Department of Police and Emergency Management was ready to provide support to the Acting Sergeant to assist in his recovery.
“There is an element of risk for police officers every time they attend a job,” Commander Edwards said. “The Acting Commissioner Darren Hine is at the hospital to provide support to the member and his family, and officers involved at the scene are also being provided critical incident stress support.”
A 19-year-old man is in custody.
