Tasmania Police pause to remember
Tasmania Police will today pause to remember their colleagues who have lost their lives while serving and protecting their communities.
As part of National Police Remembrance Day a ceremony will held at the Police Academy at Rokeby this morning.
Fortunately, Tasmania Police has not lost any of its members while on duty in the past year.
It’s a similar story nationwide, with other jurisdictions also recording no deaths in the last 12 months.
“While we are thankful that our service has not lost any lives in the line of duty in the past 12 months, today we pause to reflect and remember our fallen colleagues, both in Tasmania and interstate,” said the Acting Commissioner of Tasmania Police, Darren Hine.
“We also remember members of Tasmania Police who have passed away through illness or in tragic circumstances,” he said.
“Today is also a time to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all members of Tasmania Police who, as we have been reminded in recent weeks, are at times confronted with unexpected and dangerous situations.”
As part of this year’s Police Remembrance Day, 10 historical Tasmanian nominations of fallen members will be added to the National Police Memorial in Canberra. Plinths will also be laid at the Police Academy’s own memorial garden at Rokeby.
National Police Remembrance Day is identified by the wearing of the traditional blue and white chequerboard ribbon, officially recognised as the symbol of Remembrance Day.
