Trainee Constable Course
Training
Training Courses are approximately 34 weeks in duration and are held at the Tasmania Police Academy at Rokeby. Trainees are not required to live at the Academy, but may be required to live-in during portions of the course. On successful completion of training, constables are posted to Hobart, Launceston, Devonport or Burnie for a minimum of two years.
Applicants should be aware of the high academic workload that will be required of a Trainee Constable. The trainee course includes 15 out of 24 units towards a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Police Studies) degree. This is a large component of a degree contained within a 34 week course, therefore a significant amount of ‘out of hours’ study will be required to complete the training. Trainees are also required to undertake driver training, operational skills training and other elements essential to modern policing.
