Queen's Birthday Honours 2007

Senior Sergeant Peter McKenzie

A long-serving police officer has been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Senior Sergeant Peter McKenzie has been awarded the Australian Police Medal.

Senior Sergeant McKenzie has given outstanding service in a career spanning 35 years, many of which were at country stations.

Appointed to Tasmania Police in 1972, he commenced his career in the Burnie Uniform Branch. After a short period of National Service, he returned to Tasmania and was stationed at Launceston, where he performed duties in the Uniform Branch and relieved at St Helens, Westbury, George Town and the Launceston Licensing and Gaming Branch.

He worked in the Uniform Branch at George Town for six years from 1974, then the Criminal Investigation Branch in Hobart and Queenstown CIB, before being transferred to the position of Officer-in-Charge at St Marys in 1985.

He returned to Queenstown in 1990 and transferred to Deloraine in 1994, where he is currently stationed.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Richard McCreadie, congratulated Senior Sergeant McKenzie on his success.

“His devotion to duty, diligence and leadership have been recognised throughout his career,” Commissioner McCreadie said.

“We have received many letters of appreciation which attest to his high motivation and dependability in the performance of his duties as a police officer.”

Senior Sergeant McKenzie was awarded the National Medal in 1987 and the Commissioner’s Medal for integrity and ethical service in 1999.

“Senior Sergeant McKenzie has made a valuable contribution to policing in Tasmania over several decades and is indeed a worthy recipient of the Australian Police Medal,” Commissioner McCreadie said.

“I commend him for his impressive work for Tasmania Police and the communities he has served.”
