Damage and theft – Midland Hwy at Kings Meadow Link Road

Damage and theft – Midland Hwy at Kings Meadow Link Road.

Launceston police are appealing for witnesses following an incidence of damage and theft at Kings Meadow Link Road overnight.

Sometime in the early hours of Saturday morning, 5 March 2016, unknown offenders have cut down the Fixed Speed Camera and stolen the camera from its casing.

It is believed that more than one person was involved in this incident.

Motorists passing at approximately 5am reported the damage to police.

“From initial investigations it would appear that person/s unknown have cut the pole down. This would have taken some time and the people responsible were obviously prepared for the task,” said Detective Sergeant Darren Turner.

Police suspect the use of an angle grinder or similar.

“The casing containing the camera has then been damaged and the camera stolen,” he said.

Detectives from Launceston CIB are investigating and appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the Midland Hwy or the Kings Meadow Link Road early this morning to think if they saw anyone loitering near the fixed speed camera.  Anyone who believes they may have witnessed activity that may assist this investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
