Sadly police can confirm one person was located deceased following a house fire on Youngmans Road, Railton, last night.

Around 8pm Tasmania Fire Service attended to reports of a house fully engulfed by fire.

TFS brought the fire under control but the house was completely destroyed.

Detectives, fire scene examiners and forensic examiners are currently conducting a full examination of the house.

TFS fire scene investigators are currently treating the fire as non-suspicious.

“Unfortunately I confirm that a body was located inside the house,” said Detective Inspector Kim Steven.

“We believe it to be the lone elderly female occupant of the house but this will not be confirmed until further forensic testing is complete.”

“Tasmania Police are continuing to liaise with TFS personnel and family members through this very difficult time.”
