Fatal motorcycle crash

About 9.50am today, Friday 30 December 2011, Tasmania Police received a call from Forestry Tasmania workers advising them of a serious road crash between a motor cycle and a utility on Union Bridge, Paradise.

On arrival of police at the scene they were informed by Ambulance Tasmania personnel that the rider of the motor cycle had died as a result of the crash.

The rider of the motor cycle has been identified as a 45 year old male from the Shearwater area.

The driver of the utility, a 44 year old male from the Kentish area, was uninjured in the crash.  He was taken by Ambulance to the Mersey Community Hospital at Latrobe for observation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that neither speed nor alcohol were a contributing factor to the crash.

This tragic loss of life on our roads is a reminder to all motorists, particularly in rural areas, for the need to drive and ride to the conditions, and be aware of other road users.
