Helicopter Mission – Tasman Peninsula

At approximately 11.00am, on Sunday 19 April 2015, the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was tasked to attend Outer North Head on the Tasman Peninsula to rescue three men.

The men had been fishing the previous day when they encountered engine difficulties with their boat, a 5 metre fibreglass vessel. The men beached the boat on rocks and attempted to fix the mechanical issue without success.  As the men were safe, they spent the night onshore, still attempting to resolve the mechanical issue.

The men contacted police today, and advised them of situation.  A police vessel was dispatched from Hobart to retrieve the men but due to poor weather conditions they could not assist.

The helicopter attended the scene and winched the 3 men to safety. They were transported to Hobart uninjured.
