At 10:30am on Monday 12/10/15 Tasmania Police Search and Rescue were notified by AMSA of a PLB activation on the west coast of Tasmania.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter was subsequently activated and flew to the beacon location which was on the Spero 1km east of the coastline.

A 59 year old Howden man and a 47 year old Howden woman were located and winched to safety.

The pair had walked from Birches Inlet several days before and the woman had fallen ill requiring rescue from the remote area. The pair were flown to Strahan.

Vision of the rescue is available from Rotorlift on the condition that every precaution is taken to protect the privacy and anonymity of those rescued i.e. no faces or other identifying features of those rescued are to be broadcast or otherwise published.
