Name Released following fatal collision

Tasmania Police have released the name of the male driver who was killed in a two vehicle collision yesterday evening on the Murchison Highway at Somerset.

He was Matthew John Martin, 34 years of Mt Hicks Road, Yolla.

Mr Martin was killed when he lost control of his vehicle on a right hand curve on a downhill section of the highway just south of Village Lane junction. His vehicle crossed into the on-coming lane and into the path of a south bound Holden Captiva wagon.

As a result of the collision Mr. Martin was killed instantly.

Three of the four occupants of the Holden were treated at the North West Regional Hospital and were released. One child passenger was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital last night. Her condition is listed as stable.

Crash Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have observed either vehicle prior to the collision or who may have witnessed the crash. Witnesses are asked to contact Burnie Police on 131 444.
