Police investigate fire at George Town Motor Inn

A police investigation is underway in relation to a George Town structure fire early this morning which has been deemed deliberately lit.

Police and the Tasmania Fire Service was called to a report of a fire at the George Town Motor Inn about 4.50am this morning.

The fire was contained to the main dining room (which was unoccupied at the time) and no one was injured during the incident.

Examinations conducted by Forensic Officers and members of the Tasmania Fire Service have determined that the fire was deliberate.

“At the time, witnesses have seen a motorcycle, possibly a road bike, leave the scene in a northerly direction up Agnes St,” Sgt Stewart said.

“Significant smoke damage has been caused to the property, and I urge anyone who can assist police with their investigation to contact us.”
