Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash – Forster Street, New Town

Sadly an 82-year-old lady has died after being struck by a Toyota Hilux on Forster Street in New Town early this morning.

Around 5.54am the lady was struck by the east-bound white Hilux in the vicinity of 37 Forster Street.

First aid was provided to the lady at the scene however sadly she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the Hilux, a 45-year-old New Town man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not physically injured during the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Excessive speed and the use of alcohol/drugs are not suspected to be contributing factors.

At the time of the crash it was dark, the road was wet and it was raining lightly. Early indications are that the lady may have been in the process of crossing the road at the time she was struck.

Forster Street was closed between Carlton Street and Montagu Street for around four hours while Crash Investigation and Forensic personnel investigated the crash.

Police Crash Investigator, Senior Constable Adam Hall would like to speak to any person who may have seen the Toyota or the pedestrian at the time of the crash or prior. Information can be provided to Senior Constable Hall on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
