Search for missing Victorian man in Central Highlands

Police, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, are continuing their search this morning for a missing 21 year old Victorian man lost in the 1000 Lakes area in Tasmania’s Central Highlands.

Police were notified at 7.30pm last night that the man – who had been fishing with friends – did not return after walking ahead of the group near Lake Ada.

The group arrived at 6am at Lake Ada with plans to fish all day at Lake Tin Hut. The man walked ahead and his friends last saw him fishing at Sandy Lake. They could hear him yelling out in conversation for a while, but heard nothing after 12 noon. When they returned to their car late that afternoon he was not back, and they called police.

A Police forward command post has been established at 1,000 Lakes Lodge at Lake Augusta.

The man is in good health. He was wearing waders, but only two layers of clothing, is carrying a torch and food.
