Stealing from Jewellery Store, Elizabeth Street, Hobart

At about 1:30pm on 6 January 2016, a man entered a jewellery store situated in Elizabeth Street, Hobart and stole a tray of jewellery valued at $9400.  The man had spoken with employees at the store prior to grabbing the tray and fleeing.  No demands or threats were made.

As a result of investigations undertaken by uniformed police from the Hobart Division, a residence in South Hobart and Sandy Bay was searched yesterday afternoon.  A 35 year old man was arrested and been charged with one count of stealing and one count of trafficking in a controlled substance.  He is due to appear in court at 10am today.

Inspector Bodnar Officer-in-Charge of the Hobart Police said, “It is pleasing to resolve this matter within a short time frame, particularly when the majority of the jewellery was recovered by police.  Investigations also led to the discovery of a hydroponic grow room in one of the properties, resulting in a trafficking charge”.
