New Interoperability Gateway

New equipment to improve communications between Tasmania Police and emergency services is now operational.

The technology, an Interoperability Gateway, connects the radio networks used by Tasmania Police and emergency services, allowing direct communications when required.

Enhancing the ability of Tasmanian emergency service to directly communicate with each other was a key recommendation of both the 2013 Bushfire Inquiry and the Tasmanian Audit Office report into Government Radio Communications.

Police and emergency services are now able to undertake their duties in emergencies with far greater access to real-time information, a safer result for both emergency service workers and volunteers, and the Tasmanian community.
