Motor Vehicle and Personal Valuables Security

Tasmania Police wish to remind members of the community to ensure the security of their vehicles and personal valuables.

Leaving your vehicle unsecured, or leaving valuable items clearly visible within the vehicle, increases the risk of burglary. The best defence against motor vehicle theft is an immobiliser. The inconvenience and financial loss suffered as a result of a stolen vehicle is easily avoided with a low-cost immobiliser and a steering wheel lock. Where possible, vehicle owners should park older vehicles in the driveway, with a later model vehicle parked behind it.

It is also important to be vigilant in securing personal items and valuables while in any public place, and if possible, consider leaving them at home.

Police ask that you don't leave open invitations for the opportunistic people in our society and secure your vehicles and keep your valuable belongings out of sight.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously, particularly at night, contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
