Tasmania Police Boosting Numbers

Recruitment at Tasmania Police is gearing up to boost police numbers this year.

A new recruit course is now scheduled to start at the Tasmania Police Academy next month, offering a new career opportunity to 20 new trainee Constables.

“This is an exciting opportunity as we rebuild our numbers to 1,228 with a recruitment strategy over the next 4 years,” said the Commissioner of Police, Darren Hine.

“The recruits for this new course have been selected from previous applicants. The recruits will graduate in December 2014, ready for the busy holiday period,” said Mr Hine.

And more recruitment opportunities are opening up: Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open (14 April) for committed, community-minded people wishing to pursue a career within Tasmania Police.

“If you’ve got the right stuff, Tasmania Police wants you.  We are seeking 20 outstanding trainees for our July course, which graduates in February 2015,” said the Commissioner of Police, Darren Hine.

EOI are invited from Monday 14 April to 28 April 2014.  These EOI will also form the pool of applicants for consideration for placement in any further courses up until March 2016.

“There’s no doubt that a career with Tasmania Police is a challenging, rewarding and diverse role in helping to keep Tasmania a safe community,” said Mr Hine.

The recruiting process is rigorous and, as well as a number of prerequisites, applicants are required to undergo criminal history clearance, basic literacy examinations, job suitability testing and a physical assessment.

“Last year we received an overwhelming number of applications and expect a similar response to this new recruitment drive,” said Mr Hine.

“Over a 29 week course, recruits will undertake training including road policing, physical training, scenario based training and investigations and operational skills.”

In addition, the 19 recruits who commenced their training in October will graduate on 2 May.

Those wishing to be considered for appointment to Tasmania Police are encouraged to submit an Electronic Expression of Interest.
