White Ribbon Event (30-Jul)

Last night (30 July 2015), Commissioner Hine joined the Premier to co-host their second ‘Night In To Get the Word Out’ White Ribbon Event to raise awareness about family violence.

Family violence is an issue of national and state significance. Too many Australians excuse, trivialise or justify violence against women. Every day, police hear the excuses made for family violence, and we must all remember that violence is always unacceptable and it is never the victim’s fault.

The Department of Police and Emergency Management is committed to reducing the impact of violence against women, their children and the community, and is pleased to announce it has enrolled to become an accredited White Ribbon Workplace. White Ribbon Workplaces are centres of respect and proactivity, actively taking steps to prevent and respond to violence against women.

The prevalence of violence against women cannot be understated – one woman is killed almost every week in Australia by a current or former partner.

Help us get the message out that violence against women is not ok.
