District Response Divisions
The District Response Divisions were established to enhance the police capacity to respond to antisocial behaviour, prevent crime and offences in public places, and support early intervention strategies throughout the state. The Division primarily consists of a Public Order Response Team, an Early Intervention and Youth Action Unit and a Victim Safety Response Team.
Public Order Response Teams (PORT)
PORTs are an enhancement to front-line policing which aims to increase police presence and reassure the community. A principle reassurance strategy of the PORT has been to maximise high visibility / high profile patrols, with a strong emphasis on foot patrols in major shopping centres, reserves, car parks and other public places.
Early Intervention and Youth Action Units (EIYAU)
The establishment of the EIYAUs, incorporating Youth Justice, Community Policing Services and PCYC, has provided a more effective early intervention approach to ‘at risk’ children and young people. The EIYAUs work closely with other government and non-government agencies to address individual issues relating to youth offending behaviour.
Victim Safety Response Teams (VSRT)
VSRTs were established as part of the whole of government Safe At Home policy with the aim of improving family violence victim safety and supporting victims in crisis situations. It is the role of the VSRT to implement strategies to minimise risk and maximise safety for family violence affected persons, prior to transferring the case to the appropriate coordinator.
