“After undertaking uniform duties, I developed an interest in criminal and drug investigations. This later saw me achieve a secondment to Northern Drug Investigation Services.”
He went on to expand his career as a detective, becoming involved in a number of major investigations before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant within Radio Dispatch Services.
In 2000, Phil was seconded to the Australian Federal Police as part of the United Nations Civilian Police Force in East Timor.
As an Academy instructor, he is now involved in the training of recruits and the coordination of developmental courses for police officers.
“I see many recruits who have taken steps to achieve a career in policing,” he said.“Being a police officer with Tasmania Police offers challenge, diversity, career advancement, job security and incentive.”
While attending incidents can be unpleasant at times, there are rewards in job satisfaction through providing assistance to the community, helping victims, and resolving issues and problems.
The Tasmania Police Service offers an exciting career and competitive salary package. As Phil Curtis attests to with his nineteen-year career, nothing else compares.
