Recruiting

Selection Process and Application Stages

Prior to being able to submit a full application and participate in the selection process you must complete the 'Application to Undertake Examination for Appointment'.  Suitable candidates will be invited to undertake the examination, which consists of a spelling, word usage and punctuation test, and a job suitability test.  Testing is conducted throughout the state and is scheduled according to the number of applicants within the area.  Applicants who successfully complete the examination will be forwarded a full application package consisting of the ‘Application for Appointment’ and ‘Applicant Information Brochure’.  Also included will be advice on how to complete the application components and contact details for obtaining the 'Police Rescue Swimming Award’ and First Aid Certificate.

The next Police Entrance Examinations are presently scheduled for early December 2009.

Applicants are encouraged to thoroughly read the Tasmania Police Applicant Information Brochure, as failure to do so could be detrimental during the selection process.

Applicants should make every effort to research the nature of the role and duties of the front line police officer and are encouraged to:

  • read the Department of Police and Emergency Management Strategic Directions Framework and Business Plan for the current year; and
  • speak to police officers known to them, local police and/or staff at the Tasmania Police Recruiting Office to explore and gain an understanding of the role of the police officer and the nature of duties undertaken within policing.
