Tasmania Police
Recruiting
Training Courses
Trainees must complete a 32 week (approximately) course at the Tasmania Police Academy at Rokeby. Trainees are not required to live at the Academy full-time. Trainees may be required to live-in at the Academy during portions of the course. Trainees will be advised of live-in requirements by Academy Staff. There are facilities for families to visit in the evenings, when required to live in, and join trainees for an evening meal. There are approximately two courses each year with 24 trainees in each.
The academic demands are considerable. However, all recruits have access to instructor's and tutor's support that should assist them to achieve good study results. There is an emphasis on law enforcement, customer service and the social implications of policing. There is an expectation that trainees will gain an extensive knowledge of:
- The Police Officer Role and Duties
- Legal Studies
- Investigations
- Public Order
- Operational Skills
- Communication Skills and many other skills.
Please feel free to review the course curriculum and modules (pdf format 13.3 KB)
Trainees will participate in a camping experience, attachments to police stations and an insight into other specialised areas.
On successfully completing the training course, trainees are transferred to Hobart, Launceston, Devonport or Burnie for a minimum of two years.
The current pay scale is available from the Recruiting Services.
Information about next scheduled Training Course is advertised on Recruiting main web page - If not advertised, then contact the Recruiting Services.
