Child Protection Strategy

Tasmania Police are mandated reporters under the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997. They are also a source of information and support for others in the community who are concerned about the safety and wellbeing of children.

The Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997 recognises that every adult is responsible for the safety of children and encourages all community members to play an important role.

The Strategy has been initiated through funding made available by the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) with support from Tasmania Police. The ACF aims to reduce the incidence of child abuse and the harm it causes to children, families and the community.

The Strategy provides basic, informative and practical material to better equip Operational Police in their role of identifying and preventing child abuse and neglect in our communities.
